ABOUT
This complete redesign focuses on the organization and needs of teachers, tutors, and their educational networks.
ROLE
UX designer, visual designer, project manager
Identifying Problems
Support tickets, training followup, and usability studies prompted the entire redesign of our teacher tools. Beyond not visually matching our platform UI, users found these tools confusing and unintuitive due to:
- Many dead ends and redundancies
- No standards with naming
- Many processes taking user out of context
Designing Solutions
Learning the needs and expectations from teachers, I opted for a classroom-first approach. All navigation in this UI is contextual to the class a teacher is viewing.
The biggest piece of this is a persistent bar on the page that always shows what class you are viewing. Clicking it expands a dropdown to provide quick access to editing this classroom, creating a new class, and switching between other classes.
Results
This is an ongoing project and this is where we’re at today. The new layout and classroom switch have been met with positive feedback and excitement from teachers and tutors in testing. The next iteration will test the classroom-creation flow (modal vs page) and the homework-assignment flow.
